If you own a home and have been unable to refinance your loan because you owe more on your home than what it’s worth, there may be hope. Under HARP (Home Affordable Refinance Program), property owners who have done a great job of making their mortgage payments in a timely manner can take advantage of low market rates. So, if your current interest rate is high or is set to escalate soon, this program may be the difference in you struggling each month to make your payments or comfortably affording your home. One of the conditions of the HARP program is that homeowners cannot have any late payments on their mortgage for the past 6 months and no more than one late payment in the past 12 months. This program is set to expire on December 31, 2013. To find out more about HARP and whether you qualify, visit www.harpprogram.org.
