There is nothing that can propel you into the holiday spirit more, than attending a few of the holiday events in our area.  This Saturday, December 1st, marks the 29th annual Dominion Christmas Parade.  Though the parade can be viewed on television, you may want to pry yourself from under your snug covers to enjoy this event live.  If you are new to our area or a native looking for a way to connect with some new friends, don’t miss this opportunity, which has become a popular Richmond tradition.  The parade will start at the Science Museum on West Broad at 10 a.m. and continue east to 7th Street.

For residents of Glen Allen or those interested in continuing the holiday fun fest this weekend, the Glen Allen Cultural Center will host its 14th annual Tree Lighting ceremony on Saturday, December 1st.  The 60-foot cedar tree, located at the Cultural Center’s Mountain Road entrance, will be the star attraction at this annual event.  Though the event is not on the same scale as the Dominion Christmas Parade or Grand Illumination, it is worth attending.  The event lasts from 4:30 – 5:45 p.m. and features holiday music, hot chocolate (one of my favorites) and cookies, and Santa Clause.  St. Nick will arrive at the event on a fire truck - I guess the elves are busy packing up the sleigh this time of year!
